Munich, the third largest city in Germany, is the capital city of the state of Bavaria. It is located on the upper plains of Bavaria, on the River Isar about 50 km (31.07 mi) north of the Bavarian Alps. It total area is 310.43 km2 (119.86 sq mi).
The city of Munich counts with 25 boroughs and is bordered from the north and clockwise by the districts of Dachau, Freising, Erding, Ebersberg, Rosenheim, Miesbach, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Starnberg, Fürstenfeldbruck.
