Education in Germany

The education system of Germany is the best in Europe even better than that of the United Kingdom. They are concerned with standards in education and scientific research so these factors play the main role in making this country one of the most important countries in Europe and in the world. Education is primarily a responsibility of the German government and the state invests lots of money in education each year. Most schools, universities and colleges are public and they are supported by taxpayers. The Federal States or Länder are responsible for education and culture in their states. However, the leaders of these Länder meet to have agreements on educational standards each year.

German schools are obligatory for all children between 6 years and 18 years of age. Most nursery schools are supported by the state, charities and churches. All German kids have the right to education at Kindergarten. When German kids finish Kindergarten, they can access pre-scholar instruction which is called Vorschulkind in German.Public education is cost-free since German kids start the elementary school (Grundschule), but children have to undergo a previous medical examination, this medical test will determine, if the child has a learning disability. Children who have learning disabilities receive help or especial assistance.

When children finish elementary school, they begin to define their vocational guidance; teachers suggest the correct high schools for each child, according to the kid’s skills, there are three kinds of high schools in Germany which are: Hauptschule, Realschule and Gymnasium. After high school, children do a test which is called Abitur that allows them to qualify for University.

Worldwide, German universities are the most popular, together with American Universities and British Universities. There are over 100 universities around Germany but if one is looking for the best ones, one should check out the international rankings of universities around the world, these university rankings provide enough information to make the best choice. Most German Universities are placed in good positions.

If you are interested in studying in Germany but you feel that language is an obstacle, do not worry; many universities, colleges and Business schools offer their courses in both, Germany language and English language. Nevertheless, there are some universities which offer the most important university courses  in different language.
