Cost, Money & banks in Germany: Costs

Costs

Costs in Germany are relatively high but usually prices of rent vary between regions and cities. If you want to live in large and attractive city you have to spend more than third of your income on rent, although lately prices have gone down. The most expensive cities are Munich and Frankfurt, followed by Hamburg, Bonn, Cologne and Mainz. On the other hand, rents in Berlin are actually cheap especially in regions such as Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Hesse.

Besides rent, you have to spend money in food, mobility and clothing; in fact, prices of those goods are not at all more expensive than in other countries. It is important to notice that prices between groceries in the supermarket and drinks and food in a restaurant or café vary considerably. So, it is recommendable to buy your own groceries.
