Bamberg DomplatzIn Bamberg, the Cathedral Square (“Domplatz”) is a large and wonderful piazza by any standard. The Domplatz is surrounded by the Cathedral, the Old Court and the New Residence; these buildings are an important part of Bamberg’s history. The Old Court was made by Emperor Henry II in 1007 to be the seat for the first bishop, there are also two buildings in the Renaissance style: The Council Chamber Building and the Beautiful Gate. The New Residence was the first large palace, showing the style of life of the bishops with its beautiful facades. There are two baroque wings that were built under Prince-Bishop Lothar Franz von Schön. Its interior has retained the authentic atmosphere of a charming residence, especially the Imperial Hall on the 2nd floor with beautiful painted walls.
